How to Live an Aligned Life

Hey, what’s up, legends? Welcome back to the Maximum Success Podcast—the show where we break down success, motivation, business, and the stuff that actually makes life worth living. I’m your host, Chris Bourke, and today, we’re talking about something that has the power to completely transform your life—alignment.

Now, before you think this is going to be all spiritual and woo-woo, stick with me. I’m not talking about aligning your chakras (though, if that’s your thing, no judgment). I mean aligning your life—your work, your relationships, your daily choices—so that everything actually makes sense together. When you’re aligned, life doesn’t feel like an uphill battle. You stop fighting against yourself, and things just start to flow.

But when you’re out of alignment? Oh man, it’s a mess. You wake up dreading your day, your job feels like a prison sentence, your relationships feel like obligations, and success feels impossible no matter how hard you push. Sound familiar? If so, don’t worry, because today, we’re going to fix that. And as always, I’ve got free tools and resources to help you do just that over at MaximumSuccess.co—so make sure you check that out.

Alright, let’s dive in.

Most people live by default. They wake up, go through the motions, and follow a path that someone else set for them—whether it’s their parents, society, or that random career counselor who told them to “just play it safe.” But here’s the thing: when you live like that, you’re basically handing over the keys to your life. You’re letting circumstances decide your future, instead of taking charge yourself. Alignment, on the other hand, is all about living intentionally. It’s when your work, relationships, and daily actions actually reflect who you are and what truly matters to you. It’s when your passion, purpose, and profit all exist in harmony.

Now, if you’re wondering whether you’re living in alignment or not, let me make it easy for you. Have you ever felt constantly exhausted, even when you get enough sleep? Do you dread Mondays like they’re some kind of personal attack? Are you surrounded by people who drain your energy? Do you feel like you’re making money but it doesn’t actually mean anything to you? And, let’s be honest, do you say “yes” to things out of obligation rather than desire? If you nodded along to any of that, you’re probably living out of alignment.

Here’s the scary part—the longer you stay out of alignment, the harder life becomes. It’s like swimming against the current. You burn yourself out, you lose motivation, and eventually, you either break down or completely give up on your goals. But the good news? You can get back into alignment, and once you do, life starts feeling effortless.

When you’re aligned, your personal life just works. You don’t feel like you’re constantly fighting yourself. You actually enjoy your days instead of just enduring them. Your work becomes something you look forward to—not because it’s easy, but because it feels meaningful. And let’s talk about relationships for a second. You know that feeling when you’re around someone and you just feel drained? That’s misalignment. The people you surround yourself with should inspire and challenge you, not pull you down. The same goes for your health—when you’re in alignment, taking care of yourself stops feeling like a chore, because you actually want to show up fully in your life.

So how do we fix this? First, get clear on your values. What actually matters to you—not what looks good on paper, not what Instagram says, but what truly matters to YOU. Write down your top five values. Integrity? Freedom? Creativity? Health? If your life isn’t reflecting these, it’s time to make some changes.

Next, audit your life like a CEO. Look at where your time, energy, and money are going. Are they aligned with your values? If not, start shifting. For one week, track everything you do and ask yourself: Is this moving me closer to my best life, or keeping me stuck?

Now, this next one is a game-changer: Start saying NO. A life out of alignment is usually packed with obligations that don’t serve you. Learning to say “no” is a superpower. Next time you’re about to agree to something, ask yourself: Would I do this if I wasn’t trying to please anyone? If the answer is no, don’t do it.

The next step? Take small but bold action. You don’t have to quit your job and move to Bali overnight (unless you want to). Just shift one thing in your routine that feels misaligned. Hate your job? Instead of quitting today, start a side hustle doing something you love. Build it up until it becomes your full-time gig.

And finally, commit to continuous alignment checks. Life changes. You evolve. What felt aligned last year might not feel aligned now. Check in with yourself regularly and ask: Am I living in alignment with what I actually want? If not, adjust. Simple as that.

Living an aligned life isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being intentional. When you get clear on what truly matters, everything else starts falling into place. And here’s your challenge before you go back to your day: Pick one area of your life that feels misaligned and take ONE small action to shift it this week.
