Back when I went to school the world was quite a different place.
Computers were just something successful business people had, and unless you were wealthy, and apart from the Commodore 64, most of us couldn’t afford a real home computer.
The Internet was something we may have heard of but very few really knew what it was or what it did, and the word ‘Google’ didn’t even exist!
In fact, when I was about to enter Grade 10, I approached my private school math teacher for a little advice as I had to choose which level of Mathematics would be best for my future.
His advice was that if I take Advanced Maths I would probably struggle but I would have no problem getting a good job, or I could take General Maths and manage it fine, but I would NEVER have a job with a computer.
Unbeknown to my teacher, my brother and I would get up before school and write games for the Commodore 64, mainly copying from a book, but it still took line after line of code to produce an end result, usually which was a simple game.
While I couldn’t do mathematics to save myself, the passion I had to create something by turning a jumble of coding into a fun game was very achievable.
The difference was that Math at school gave no visual reward for me, but turning those lines of coding turned into something that I would appreciate was a reward, which strengthens the core passion, making the hard work of learning effortless.
So when my teacher told me I would NEVER get a job with a computer, I disagreed with his lack of non-inspiration and lack of vision, which prompted me to prove him wrong by taking General Maths, and then leaving school at the end of the year at sixteen years old to get a job, with a computer, which I did within a few months of leaving school!
Since that day over two decades ago I have spent the majority of my productive and creative time working on a Mac computer, and taught myself web development, online marketing, affiliate marketing, and then completed advanced courses in developing these techniques
I then went onto creating numerous online businesses for myself, and training others how to build their own online empires, many who have generated full time income based on their inner passion instead of having to go off every morning to a ‘job’ like many others do.
Not bad for a kid that was once told by his private school teacher that he would never have a job with a computer!
My point is the education system is flawed!
While the education system is necessary, we are not taught early enough at school to follow our passions, and many years later we find the majority of these students working their butts off doing a job they really don’t get 100% enjoyment out of.
We read stories all the time about 10 year old kids that are now creating Apps, games and websites and earning way more than my teachers income was, by doing something they love, not something they learnt at school.
I myself have taught a number of kids how to embrace their passions and hobbies and turn them into a passive income through affiliate marketing. Many teachers don’t even know what affiliate marketing is, and unfortunately children are missing out on the basic education that could show them how to be self-sufficient financially before they leave high school, and possibly even fund their own education, or even retire when they are in their early forties, all generated from selling their passion. Children with the knowledge are embracing it and earning more in one day than many well educated adults are making in a week, consequently not relying on their parents to give them money or hand outs from the Government.
The fact is, unfortunately the education system is flawed, and not designed to education people how to follow their dreams, or everyone would be doing what they love doing everyday and reaping the financial and personal benefits.
So why is this education not taught at school?
The internet has opened up so many doors to self-generated wealth, which allows anyone to be successful, without requiring a university degree, without a big flash office and without huge overheads.
You can very easily make money literally while you sleep and work the hours you want to, and set your own level of wealth you wish to achieve. There is no need to work years of university to end up doing an 8 hour + day job on a capped salary, but unfortunately this is how the current education system is designed to education.
I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel the world and still make money while I spend my day sitting my the pool in Thailand, snowboarding in Canada, cruising the waterways of Venice, or snorkelling the blue waters of Tahiti, all funded by my job, with a computer. The one my teacher told me I would never have!
Simply do a Google search on Ebay for books on making money online and online passive income, and you’ll soon find there are many ways to earn an income that your school teachers never even mentioned, before you spent all those years going to college and university.
Your life should be based on the 80/20 rule…make sure 80 percent of your life is about having fun, and 20 percent doing what you have to do to pay the bills. If your life is the other way around, maybe its time for a little self re-education.
If I had listened to my teacher two decades ago my life would not have been filled with as much passion and self-fulfillment as it is today.
